• What you need to know about the demographic situation in Poland

  •

Poland is one of the largest European countries. At the same time, the population and demographic problems are not particularly different from other countries in Evopa.

As of 2018, the country had a population of about 38 million people.

Unfortunately, statistics clearly show that the population continues to fall. There is no growth dynamics. That is, the mortality rate exceeds the birth rate. And such a situation is observed from year to year.

    The demographic situation

We cannot say that there is a rapid growth or decline in demography in the state. But the trend remains negative. If you want to know more about the population of Poland, you should read detailed and interesting information, including statistics of recent years.

In terms of demographic decline, Poland is one of the last countries in Europe. This means that the birth rate here is quite low. It is about the same level as in Germany, Spain and Italy.

In addition to the high mortality rate, the deteriorating demographic situation is also influenced by the active emigration of the young population. According to statistics, about 36% of people leaving the country are under 45 years old. And about 30% are people from 18 to 24 years old.

Experts believe that the decline in fertility among Poles is due to social reasons. It is, in particular, the high level of unemployment. Especially in the period from 1990 to 2002. Since 2004, the situation with job security has begun to improve gradually.

Nevertheless, a large part of emigrants prefer to go to other Western European countries. Strange as it may seem, these are mostly Germany, Spain, and Italy. In these countries the situation with labor emigrants is the most serious. But since Poland is a member of EU, there are no problems with emigrants from Poland in these countries.

    Demographic forecasts

As for the demographic forecasts, they are disappointing.

Experts believe that by 2023 the population of Poland may decrease to about 37 million.

But in 2050 this figure will be just over 34 million people.

If these forecasts are believed, then in 2080, there will be no more than 29 million Poles. Compared to the current situation, this is an impressive and even slightly frightening reduction. It is difficult to say exactly what factors will lead to this demographic situation.
